Siren soundings confuse Oklahoma City residents

The howl of a storm siren can inspire terror in some and apathy in others.It can also inspire confusion.Most Oklahoma City residents know a storm siren is a warning about severe weather, but many don’t know why and when the city sounds its sirens.Some think it means there is a tornado warning somewhere in the county. Others think it means a tornado is on the ground in their immediate area. What about when the siren sounds again? Does it mean there is another tornado on the way or is it the signal that all is clear?Police Sgt. Frank Barnes, Oklahoma City’s emergency manager, said he got plenty of phone calls after last week’s storms from residents confused about the city’s storm siren policy. see more on NewsOK.com
